S.O.S

I am writing this glad that I know what is meant by S.O.S.

Unfortunately my knowledge of acronyms and abreviations is far from complete. I only just worked out what was meant by SATC2 (Sex and the City 2) I thought it was a new version of SATs.

In the modern world everything seems to have an abbreviation OMG, BRB, LOL.... the list goes on. Would it kill people to write the whole thing once in a while? Ok, I understand when limited to 140 characters (like on Twitter or in texting) that abbreviations are worth while but surely the are only worthwhile if people know what you are talking about?

I know all language develops over time but this is ridiculous. How long is it going to be before we are all walking around shouting OMG and no longer laughing at anything but saying LOL? (like that 'that's so funny girl' from Scrubs.) It's horrible. No refinement whatsoever. Who wants to sound like a cross between a computer and cheesy advert? Not me.

Initials have their place, sure, just please don't let them take over. It spoils the beauty of our language.

This is something I feel passionate about, but as always I am powerless against it. Gah.

Perhaps S.O.S should stand for Save Our Speech... or possibly Save Our Sanity because this is driving me insane.
