Lonesome Day

I am writing this feeling far from lonely. For most of the day I have had some lovely company and now I have my cat sat on my lap, purring happily. Sadly, as nice as that is, it doesn't give me much inspiration for this blog post.

Loneliness is a difficult concept to pin down in many ways because as humans we are both alone and not alone. It is possible to feel lonely in a crowded room, it is also possible to be alone and not feel lonely. Some claim loneliness is part of the human condition, maybe it is because everyone feels alone, everyone wonders if anyone has ever felt the same way they feel, ever thought the same thoughts. They are impossible questions to answer exactly but the likelihood is that someone will at least understand.

Loneliness is an empty sort of feeling like a vast hollow space. The longer you feel it, the bigger the space seems and the harder it is to claw your way out. From experience, though, it is worth it, worth just reaching out your hand and making a connection again. The space will get smaller.
