I'm writing this with my cowboy boots and denim on.
Recently there has been a sudden splurge in western charm in my life:Firstly there is this season's fashions which seem to lend themselves to dressing like a cowgirl- ruffles, double denim, but of feminine flower detail and I'm there. It is unsurprisingly that I have become an extreme shopaholic in the last few months considering there are clothes of this style around- it is just what I like to wear- it confortable, feminine and pretty but with a tomboy twist- perfect. I'm certainly not complaining about that.
Next is the release of the game Red Dead Redemption which people seem to have gone crazy for and, from what i've seen, it is not surprising. The graphics are undeniably amazing with scenery to die for. Now, I haven't played the game myself (lacking the necessary gaming machines) but I have watched the game being played... (Yeah, I am totally expert enough to blog about this game now) and for the first time in my life I wish I had a play station or some such thing to play it on. A few rounds of in-game poker and a squiz at the pretty horses and that's me hooked in.
At the same time as all this I have recently been introduced to the thrills of watching Westerns. Today was the classic by Sergio Leone- The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Quite possibly my favourite western I've watched so far although it is a close call as I have also watched and enjoyed Once Upon A Time in the West and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
There is something about the style and the humour of these films which is just magical. It makes me realise just how important it is to keep watching these 'old films' because many of them are still as fantastic as when they were first made. They don't need flashy special effects- their substance make such trappings irrelevant, even if they had been possible at the time they were made. Just wonderful... Clint Eastwood isn't too hard on the eyes, either.
Right now it seems that I just can't get enough of westerns, it makes me want to start horse riding again (after almost a year's break). It just screams of summer and fun.
So what if my life has been bombarded with westerns? That's all right.
